Bagheera is a beautiful Great Pyrenees mix (we said mix, folks. we have no idea what else is going on in that DNA ladder.), but she is 100% full-bred good dog. She is very friendly, loves to give her favorite people hugs, and she likes what she likes. It’s that last part that’s going to take a very special person. Baggie, as we affectionately call her, has a tendency to resource guard. Sometimes it’s toys, sometimes it’s people, sometimes it’s the couch. Whoever Baggie ends up with will need to expertly balance discipline and rule-setting with lots of patience and love.

She’s a lively lady, brimming with enthusiasm, and here are some insights into her likes and dislikes. Bagheera loves the thrill of zoomies, relishing tasty snacks, frolicking in the snow, and basking in the limelight as the center of attention. However, she’s not so fond of birds and butterflies, sharing her treasures, or finding empty treat containers.

If you’re considering becoming Bagheera’s forever companion, here’s the ideal match for her:

A ‘seasoned’ owner: Bagheera tends to be protective of what she considers her possessions, so an owner with extensive experience in managing resource guarding and working with dogs exhibiting behavioral quirks is a must. She’s not suited for first-time dog owners.

A spacious home environment: This large and in-charge lady needs room to roam and stretch her legs.

Limited guests: Bagheera may need some time to warm up and adapt to new people and situations, so a home with fewer visitors would be best.

Daily Brain and Body exercise: Bagheera is brimming with energy, so be prepared for an active companion who will keep you on your toes!

No felines, canines, or tiny humans, please: Bagheera’s ideal home doesn’t include other pets or small children.

Bagheera is a fantastic, delightfully fun, and sweet girl who’s on the lookout for her new best friend.

Bruno is the kind of dog that defines the mission of MVP Mutts. He’s very bright, he’s very suspicious of new people, and he desperately needs a job. If you are living a quiet, rural life in need of a right-hand man, Bruno is your guy. Your mission will be to earn his trust, build his confidence in the safety of your presence, and give him lots of treats. Arguably, the last one is the easiest, so maybe make that the first thing on the list so you’re both feeling successful? Because Bruno isn’t fond of new folks right away, you won’t find him on the adoption floor. He has his own suite of rooms in the back of the house, and for the right candidate, we’ll happily set up a series of slow and gentle introductions. He wanted us to give him an opportunity to tell his story in his own words, so read on!

Dear Hoomans,

I’m Bruno, but you can call me the “bestest boy.” I’ve got a list of favorite things longer than a sausage link, including parkour, pup cups, squeaky and stuffed toys, chimken nuggets, and basically every dog-friendly snack known to humanity. They say I’m the smartest and most handsome boy in the whole wide world (or at least that’s what they keep telling me here).

When the weather’s fine, you’ll find me splashing around in my doggy pool, playing a rousing game of fetch with my beloved humans, and reveling in the joy of car rides.

Now, if you’re interested in having an audience with me, please have your people give a shout to my people. Oh, and don’t forget to bring your most delectable snacks along!

Toodles,
Bruno

Bruno’s journey began as a street dog, but now he’s a spoiled pup looking for a rural paradise with an experienced owner who’s ready to embark on a mission of training and dedication to ensure he leads his best life. Bruno would thrive as the sole canine companion, and he’s best suited for adult humans. Cats might be acceptable if they have ample space and proper introductions.

Our dedicated staff has been working with Bruno since his arrival in September 2021. He’s a blend of brawn and brains, always eager to showcase his impressive tricks and spins, and he’s incredibly loyal to his humans. To form a lasting bond with this charming lad, multiple visits may be needed (by the way, he seems to have a preference for the ladies).

If you have any further inquiries or wish to meet this dashing fellow, please don’t hesitate to contact BHS for more information!

Introducing Chance, a handsome 2-year-old Lab mix who’s on the lookout for a specific home.

Do you… live in a rural environment?
… live with only adults or older teenagers?
… have, ideally, a fenced-in space he can’t escape from?
… have experience providing high-needs dogs with structure, training, and consistency?
… have willingness to keep him on a leash AT ALL TIMES when outside of your home or fenced in area?

Chance would be best suited as the only pet in the home and thrive in an environment with limited animals around, allowing him to focus on the bond he forms with his owner. He has a high prey drive His strong prey drive means he may have a keen interest in chasing smaller creatures, so when going out he should be on leash always, and on walks, be mindful he may try to chase all the squirrels!

Chance has a knack for being an escape artist extraordinaire! He’s always up for a little adventure, so he requires a secure space and monitoring. With some creativity and patience, you can help him channel his curiosity in a positive way.

While he enjoys his human company, Chance prefers a home without young children. Teenagers who understand and respect his boundaries may be a better fit. Chance is a smart pup, and he’s eager to learn and please. However, he has quite the personality that requires an experienced owner who can provide structured training and consistency. With the right guidance, Chance can shine!

If you can check all his boxes, please consider meeting Chance! He is ready to be out of the shelter environment and in a home! Give the guy a chance, huh?

PFC Darla, reporting for duty! This lively, energetic girl probably isn’t going to tolerate a drill sergeant who can’t handle a little sass. She’s super talkative, and has no “chill” when it comes to taking treats, especially when she’s excited. Her ideal leader is someone who has a good sense of humor, sets reasonable expectations, pays handsomely in jerky, and offers lots of opportunity for PT. Is she the right fit for your company?

Meet Darla, the talkative hound girl who’s always ready to let the good times roll!

This marks Darla’s third stay at BHS, as she was previously adopted and returned due to some training needs. In her new home, it will be essential for all humans to participate in her training and bonding process. Doing some hound research would be beneficial, as you’ll quickly learn that they have very strong instincts. Darla definitely has what might be described as “stubborn energy” and can be defensive with her chosen things. Be cautious around her when it comes to human food, as it’s her absolute favorite and she is reluctant to share.

Darla’s history doesn’t include living with other dogs, however where she is not interested in sharing her feeding space or toys with others, Darla is looking to be the only dog in the home. There’s no known record of Darla living with cats, so careful consideration and well-managed introductions are recommended if you have dog-savvy cats in your household. If you are looking for a running partner- look no further. She has lots of energy just be ready for the occasional stop to get some good sniffs in!

For Darla, the ideal home consists of older teens and adults only. Before considering adoption, all potential human family members must meet and interact with her.
